PTHS Gets Ready For The Spring Musical

The Pequannock Township High School Spring Musical cast prepares to perform Mean Girls on May 1, 2, and 3. An interview with Mr. Arnold, the director, and Taylor Cooper, a cast member, gives a closer look at the preparation involved in the musical.

Auditions are an essential part of any production. Mr. Arnold explained the audition process. “It is usually a two-day process. The first day was singing, and the second day was acting. And I would say that the casting went pretty fast and smooth with this one. Reading the script, studying the musical… looking at it to decide how best to cast it. Another big thing is rehearsals. ”

Another essential part of performing the musical is the rehearsals. The cast of the PTHS Spring Musical rehearses three times a week. “We rehearse on Mondays from 6 to 9, Thursdays from 3 to 6, and Saturdays from 9 to 1. Tech rehearsals are from 3 to 10 and are the week before the show. I’ve been watching videos and practicing choreo, and listening to the songs,” Taylor Cooper, a feature dancer and teary girl in the show, explained. 

Mr. Arnold further expanded on what goes on during the rehearsals and how they practice as a group. “It depends on what scene we are working on. Usually, the process is we learn the music first, then we start on choreography, and at some point, we add the blocking, which is where the actors stand.” 

Mr. Arnold faced challenges during the planning process. He commented, “We had trouble finding a choreographer, and I ended up making the decision to have a student be the choreographer, Caroline Budesheim. I think it’s going to be amazing. We have such a great cast. Caroline’s choreography is amazing. We have some fantastic singers.”
