The PTHS Robotics Team had its first competition on November 24 at Brooklawn Middle School. The team gave a great effort, composed of seven of the existing members and the sponsoring teacher of the club, Mrs. Froehlich.

To start, the school’s Robotics Team has been working on the robot it would eventually present to the judges at Brooklawn Middle School in mid-October. The club maximized its efficiency by assigning various members to different tasks so that more could be accomplished before the second competition of the season. The first was observed by the team rather than competed in to get a better understanding of the competition atmosphere for newer members. However, you might be asking yourself, what is robotics? According to the lead builder of the club, Andrew Meyer, Robotics Club is, “A special program offered by the school where students with any level of experience can explore the many categories of the field of robotics.”

The competition itself was very intense. The drive team that would operate the robot during the actual competition was composed of the claw operator, the robot driver, the coach of the team, and the human player who aided the robot in lifting various “specimens” on the field to place into baskets or hang on poles to obtain points. Overall the experience was a really enriching one for the team and they hope to do even better at the next two competitions later in the year, hopefully even making it to the state competition at the very end.

Leaving this editorial on a positive note, the current captain of the team, senior Xavier Trinidad is especially confident in the team's ability to make it farther up the ranks, “...because we have an increase in numbers.” He says, “I would like to pass the torch to the current and future members once I graduate.” And indeed he will. Great job to the Robotics Team for their perseverance and problem-solving, and keep up the good work!
