The girls began their pre-season on July 8th, and from that point forward, it was all about hard work. Coach McBurney started most of the practices with running to help build a strong foundation for the team. He motivated the girls to run on their own by creating weekly challenges that earned points. At the end of the summer, the points were tallied, and the top five girls with the most points won sweatshirts.

Mandatory practice began on August 19th, marking the start of an intense training period. The team participated in fun bonding activities, such as the World Cup, where they dressed up to represent different countries and played fun soccer games, competing for pizza. This year's winners were the Zegler twins, who represented England. Another highlight was their annual hike, where the team spent quality time together while working their way to the top to get a great view of the field they would be working on for the rest of their season.

Their first game was on September 9th against Hanover Park, which they unfortunately lost 3-1. Despite a rocky start to the season, the girls continued to work hard and challenge their opponents every week. Seventeen days later, the Pequannock Girls Soccer Team secured their first win against Butler with a score of 2-0, with both goals scored by Caitlin Zegler.

On October 4th, they achieved another victory against Sussex Tech, winning 7-2. They also had a significant win during their charity game on October 10th. The girls truly came together for the PanCan game, understanding they were playing for a greater cause, and they delivered an impressive 3-0 victory against an almost undefeated team with an 11-1 record. From then on, they only had one additional loss and one tie on senior night celebrating the 4 seniors, Riley Chomko, Zoe Wizner, Gianna DeSimoni, and Meaghan Albinson, and then entering a winning streak with two consecutive wins.

The girls have one more game against Madison on November 1st before they begin their state tournament run. Caitlin Zegler leads the team as the top goal scorer with 10 goals and a total of 24 points. Gianna DeSimoni holds the record for the most assists on the team, contributing 13 points. Currently, the team’s record stands at 5 wins, 11 losses, and 1 tie.

Good luck to our girls in the state tournament!
