Pequannock Boys Basketball: A Season Recap

The Pequannock boys basketball team, under the leadership of Head Coach Brandon Horetsky, wrapped up an impressive season with a record of 19-9 and a strong 8-2 standing in the NJAC - Independence division. The team's journey was marked not only by victories but also by significant achievements and memorable moments that showed Pequannock's sense of community and sportsmanship.
One of the standout players this season was captain Dylan Tomaskovic, who led the way with an impressive 366 points throughout the season. Another standout athlete was junior Jack Picardo, who scored 304 points. The team’s roster also featured a group of dedicated seniors, including Tyler Carlone, Donovan Cassel, John Foti, Joe Heaney, Nick Kolatac, and Luke White, each of whom brought their unique skill sets to the court.
The season kicked off with an exciting win against Whippany Park, where the Panthers triumphed with a final score of 57-46. The energy continued to build as the team celebrated a significant senior night victory against Morris Tech, defeating them 61-25. Donovan Cassel emerged as a key player in that game, contributing 17 points to the win.

One of the season's highlights was the "Game On Gavin" charity event, held to support a fellow Panther battling leukemia. The community rallied together in a show of support, with players from both teams and supporters wearing orange to demonstrate their support. The Panthers delivered an exhilarating performance, winning the game 61-48, with Dylan Tomaskovic scoring 21 points and Luke White contributing 15.
As the team progressed to the state tournament, they started strong with a convincing 71-46 victory over Kinnelon, featuring a stellar 24-point game from Braydon VanLenten. However, the Panthers' championship run came to a close in the second round, where they faced a heartbreaking 49-46 defeat against Cresskill. Despite the loss, the Panthers worked hard fighting until the very last second.

As the season came to an end, several players received well-deserved mentions for their performances. Dylan Tomaskovic earned a spot on the 3rd team All-County and was named to the 1st team All-Conference, while Jack Picardo secured 1st place All-Conference as well. Nick Kolatac achieved recognition with a place on the 2nd team All-Conference, and Luke White received an honorable mention.
The Pequannock boys basketball team’s season was not just about the scores and statistics; it was a testament to teamwork and community support. This season was full of valuable experiences that will shape their futures on and off the court. With a strong foundation established this year, the Panthers look forward to building on their successes in the seasons to come.
