Pequannock Panthers Football Season Review:
The 2024 Pequannock Panthers football team had an exciting season, with an impressive 8-3 record that secured a playoff run. Head Coach Moschella and the veteran senior class led the team to success, showcasing their talent and teamwork throughout the year.
The season started strong, as the Panthers won their first five games. Victories included a 21-7 win against St. Mary of Rutherford and a notable 35-18 triumph over sectional finalist Mountain Lakes. The team also dominated against Parsippany High (38-7), Ramsey (28-7), and rival Kinnelon (34-7), showcasing a powerful offense and a tough defense.
Despite a setback against eventual sectional champion Hanover Park, which resulted in a 41-9 loss, the team bounced back with a huge 40-6 victory over Morris Catholic. A heartbreaking defeat followed against Madison, with the Panthers losing 21-14 in a closely competed match. However, the team's resilience shone through as they beat Sussex Tech 32-7.
The playoffs brought an exhilarating overtime win against Madison in the sectional quarterfinals, finishing the game 28-27. Unfortunately, the season came to an end in the sectional semifinals, where the Panthers lost to Bernards 17-0.
Throughout the season, the Panthers outscored their opponents 279-165, demonstrating their offensive dominance by scoring 40 touchdowns while allowing only 22 touchdowns against them. The team's defense also shone brightly, giving up only one touchdown in five games and forcing 12 turnovers.
The success of the Panthers can be credited to an exceptional group of players who not only excelled individually but also came together as a cohesive team. The standout performances this season were recognized with 10 players receiving All-Division (American White) honors. Notably, Justin Gryszkin was named D-lineman of the Year for Morris County and earned a spot on the 1st Team All Group 2 Defense. Angelo Cundiff also made a name for himself, receiving All Morris County honors and being recognized as a Mini Max award winner. Henry Struble won the Steve DiGregorio Young Man of the Year award a huge accomplishment that showcases his dedication to our community and his selflessness as he raised over $25,000 for charity.
More than just awards and records, the class of 2024 showed what hard work and dedication can achieve. They embodied the spirit of the Pequannock Panthers with their resilience and commitment to excellence on and off the field.
